12th Ugadi Telugu Creative Writing Contest

Vanguri Foundation of America, Inc is pleased to announce the 12th Creative Writing Contest in Telugu open for all writers of North America on the occasion of Sarvajit Nama Ugadi (March 20, 2007). The contest is open to Telugu writers living outside India in any country.

The Contest categories are (1) Short Story (2) Kavitha and (3) Essay (4) Novel

The contest, conducted for the past eleven years, is intended to encourage and inspire all Telugu writers living out side India to continue their creative writing. A panel of qualified Telugu Literary persons of North America and India will judge the winning the entries. Two prizes ($116 and $58) will be awarded in each of the Short Story, Poetry and Essay categories. One prize in the novel category will be awarded with Cash Award of $250. The prize money may be increased to exceptionally creative entries. All winners will also receive a Certificate of Excellence.

The winning and other selected entries will be published by Vanguri Foundation of America, Inc. in accordance with its publication schedules. Since its inception in 1994, the Foundation has published 31 books, most of them by Telugu writers of North America, including 9 volumes of "America Telugu Kathanika", a compilation of selected Telugu Short Stories by Telugu writers of North America. The Foundation also organized five bi-annual "America Telugu Sahiti Sadassulu" and "Motta Modati Prapamcha Telugu Sahiti Sadassu" in Hyderabad on December 31, 2006 & January 1, 2007.

Contest rules are as follows:

1. Submissions to Short Story and Essay categories must be less than 15 hand written pages and 5 pages for Poetry.
We encourage the participants to explore themes that are related to the various phases of the lives of Telugu Americans. While surveying the collection of stories submitted during the past decade, we recognize that there are many unexplored areas, such as our professional careers, future expectations or plain utopian dreams and the impact of globalization on our lives.

2. Only original, unpublished works will be accepted. The authors must send their real name, address, phone number and e-mail even though pen name can be used for the purpose of publication.

3. The results of the Contest will be announced on or before June 1, 2007.

Articles must be received on or before March 20, 2007 at the following address. E-mail submissions to as attachments in PDF format are also accepted.

On the eve of our Third Anniversary, Telugu Naadi. the Pulse of Telugu America, is conducting a Telugu short story competition for North American Telugu writers. 

Unique prize: Winners will have their color portraits painted by the famous artist Chandra.
